Summer Memories Rig Reel

In this reel I've added my favorite and most challenging rigs I created while working on Summer Memories. I worked with Yeti Farm Creative in 2021. I worked with them as a freelance artist for about 8 months. I was also working on Agent Elvis full time as well during this time. It is available for viewing on Family Channel and Amazon Prime Family Channel package!

Summer Memories Rigs

Jeff Rig

While working on Summer Memories, I learned a lot. Things we did frequently were using auto patches and a matte-composite when masking things together. In my Jeff Rig, I had the challenge of the print on the pants but to make sure it was layer-able and cut into all of the pants/legs. We also did a lot of reuse, thankfully the design team Frankenstein-ed other characters together, so the head from one and the body from another would create a new character. While having clothing changes to still remain unique. So on this project I learned how to keep rigs consistent so when people go in to mash things together they know where all the pieces are in the node view. Labelling things correctly is also extremely important.

Jeff Gargoyle Rig

An example of reusing is this Jeff Gargoyle rig. I was able to take elements from Jeff and build the Gargoyle version of him. The hat and pants were a big time saver. As you know working in a studio can be a fast paced environment and things have deadlines. So this process helped get things done on time! Something else to note here is the use of the layers, for the hat brim and the eye brows I had to place things on the overlay, and underlay in order for it to fit the design. Also for the handles of the scooter something we did was to have clones of the hands so by using Z-Depth they can fall on top of any prop the character holds.

Agent Elvis Rig Reel

In this reel I've added my favorite and most challenging rigs I created while working on Agent Elvis. I worked with Titmouse in 2021 as a freelance artist, I was also working on Summer Memories full time as well. It is available for viewing on Netflix.

Agent Elvis Rigs

Roxanne Rig

While working on Agent Elvis, we had the task of making the rigs extremely simplified. We tried to avoid auto patches and cutting as much as possible. There was a line texture involved and there were anti aliasing issues that happened when things were masked too much. In this Roxanne rig, I had to create a full turnaround, and in some of the poses I also had to change the flipped views based on the design. Things moved very quickly and I had to think on my toes to get things finished. For the shoulders we also used SK handles so when the whole arm is lifted the shoulder moves with it making it easier for animators to do big action sequences to simple dialogue with shrugs etc. She was also reused for other rigs including, Roxanne Dirty, Roxanne Deranged (seen in Rig Reel above), and Roxanne Hawaii outfit (see Rig Reel) and they were all rigged by me as well.

Elvis Clown Rig

This Rig wasn't in many scenes but it still took time and effort to redress the main Elvis Rig. I also had to add the head tilts for the front views, and adjusting it to the design. For this redress I just recolored the palette and added new drawings for the elements that were very different. The pay off for the time and effort it took was still very rewarding. Something I learned here was "there are no small parts only small actors"

Scatter Hands Library

This is the Scatter Hands rig clean up. As we moved through episodes the animators had to draw new hands for characters, Scatter included. My job was to go in and clean up the line work and make sure that there were as little contour points as possible. Something super important I noted was the render view in this build, sometimes the animators need a quick hand to get things out the door. I would go back in afterwards and clean them up and add them to the Scatter Rig so all the hands would then be in a universal library for everyone to access. Saving time for future scenes animators had to work on.

Solar Opposites Season 4 Rig Reel

In this reel I have compiled clips from some of the Rigs I made while working with Copernicus Studios on Solar Opposites Season 4. I worked on the whole season and learned lots of techniques. On the main character rigs, we always have master controllers so for redresses I would reassign the build to the controllers. I also worked on lots of builds that exploded so I had to work with very detailed designs and make the "guts" so to speak animatable. You can watch Solar Opposites season 4 on Disney+.
